Motor City Monarchs’ defenseman Trevor Hillman has signed with ACHA Division I Midland University for the 2015-16 season.

Midland is located in Fremont, Neb.

“I'm happy to finally have Trevor become a Warrior,” said Midland head coach Jason Cirone. “He is going to instantly improve our defense and make us a better team. Coming from the Monarchs ensures me that we are getting a character person because I know (Monarchs’ head coach) Jason McCrimmon does a great job developing young talent.”

Hillman, from Beverly Hills, Mich., joined the Monarchs midway through the season after an early-season stint playing junior hockey in Florida and quickly became a key element of Motor City's success this season.

“We were happy to get him in a Monarchs’ jersey and give him an opportunity to finish his junior hockey career here with us," said McCrimmon. “He has brought confidence, skill and leadership to the team and has emerged as one of our top defensemen, adding a lot to our depth as we attempt to make an MWJHL championship run.”

This season, Hillman recorded two goals and six points in 10 games for Motor City.

The Monarchs and Hillman will take on the Detroit Fighting Irish in the second round of the MWJHL Veteran’s Memorial Cup Playoffs beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. at Jack Adams Ice Arena in Detroit. Games 2 and 3 (if necessary) will be back at Fraser Hockeyland.
