Hounds sign young blueliner Kiel

Coming in as the No. 6 seed, the Soo Firehawks went on the road and swept the Decatur Blaze in the first round of the MWJHL Veteran’s Memorial Cup Playoffs with two wins this weekend.
FRIDAY
Closing out the night (and early morning) at the Nelson Center, the visiting Soo Firehawks defeated the Decatur Blaze 5-1.
Five different players scored for the Soo as Zach Eitrem, Noah Anderson and Matt MacLaren each had a goal and an assist.
Christian Wilkins and Mario Taranto also scored and Cody Call picked up the win in goal with a 38-save effort.
Micah Young tallied Decatur’s goal and Matt Hatcher finished with 45 saves in the Blaze net.
SATURDAY
At the Nelson Center, the visiting Firehawks swept the Decatur Blaze with a 5-3 win.
Matt MacLaren (pictured) popped a pair of goals and Daniel Bachynsky and Zach Eitrem posted a goal and an assist each.
Nick Gordon also scored for the Soo and Cody Call made 28 saves between the pipes.
Brandon Adler went for a goal and an assist for the Blaze, while Luka Znidarsic and Curtis Schlereth added single goals.
Blaze goaltender Matt Hatcher stopped 47 shots in the loss.
The Firehawks move on to play the top-seeded Hounds in the semifinals next weekend at Centre ICE.
