Maui, HI -- Gilbert De La Vara started the game for the Scorpions (15-29), but only lasted 4 1/3 innings notching a no decision. De La Vara did get bailed out by his batters as De La Vara gave up 6-earned runs. The pitching was all around lack luster as 10 walks were issued by four Scorpions pitchers, not ot say the game was not lost until the bottom of the 9th inning.
The Na Koa Ikaika pitcher Nick Renault (1-1) would be the eventual winner on the night. Every player except Pat Rose and Jose Canseco would pick up a hit in the game, though Canseco did walk and drive in a much needed run. The Scorpions found themselves in a quick hole after four innings, down 4-0 before picking up runs in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th. They would fall one run short in the contest losing 7-8. Jacob Wiley (0-6) would pick up the loss in a relief appearance. Wiley has struck out 33 in only 28 innings pitched, but picked up another hard luck loss.
Arnoldo Ponce hit his 4th homerun on the season for the Scorpions and also nabbed his 19th RBI. JJ Muse would collect 2 RBI's in the contest making him only the 2nd Scorpions player to have at least 20 RBI's. Canseco should pass that threshold in the next few days as he sits at 17 RBI's on the season.
The Scorpions will take on Maui again tonight with a game time of 6:35pm (9:35pm AZ).
