SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Regulation and overtime were not enough as the Alpena Flyers prevailed 2-1 in a seven-round shootout over the Soo Firehawks Saturday night at the Big Bear Arena.

Shane Dawson's goal in the seventh round was the winner for the Flyers.

In regulation, Brett Farley scored for Alpena and Christian Wilkins (pictured) for the Firehawks.

Alpena goalie Brett LeTourneau made 36 saves, while Nic Berlingieri stopped 30 at the other end.

The Soo (17-24-1-4) finish in sixth place and will travel to play the third-seed Decatur Blaze in the opening round of the MWJHL playoffs next weekend at the Nelson Center in Springfield, Ill.
