TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - In the lone MWJHL game Friday night, the Traverse City Hounds defeated the Alpena Flyers 4-2 at Centre ICE in the first half of a home-and-home series this weekend.
Cam Fisher scored once and added two assists for the Hounds (39-3-1-2), while Austin Flores pitched in with a goal and an assist.
"Alpena worked hard tonight and we got caught off-guard in the first period, but we were able to come back in the second and third," said Traverse City head coach Jacek Wilk.
"We had a very slow start in the first period," added Hounds' forward Cam Givens, noting Alpena led 1-0 after 20 minutes. "We regrouped and got better as the game went on. We got great goaltending and we kept up the pressure throughout the third period to seal it."
Kevin Hansen and Givens also scored and TC goaltender David Krejcik stopped 27 shots.
For Alpena, Mitchell Kazmierczak and James Stacey scored and Hunter Myers finished with 18 saves in goal.
The Flyers play Saturday night on the road against the Soo Firehawks at the Big Bear Arena at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Hounds Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. at the Northern Lights Arena.
