Toth Fires Complete Game Win in Petrolia

Date:  Source: Maple City Brewers

The Maple City Brewers went to Petrolia following an eight day layoff but didn't waste any time getting their bats going, en route to an easy 10-1 win. Joel Smith (2B) walked, stole second, and eventually scored on a 2 out RBI single by Denny Toth.

In the top of the second the Brewers (8-3 WCL) iced the game, scoring five runs on four hits and a walk. Greg Sinclair (C) started the inning off with a double to right field. Brock Henderson (CF) also doubled to right, plating Sinclair. Recent acquisition, Josh Vannieuwenhuyze (RF), walked to put runners on first and second.

After a ground out moved the runners to second and third, Smith hit an RBI single to right that scored Henderson. Vannieuwenhuyze (RF) came in on a Joe Wright (LF) sac fly and Matt Knights (SS) followed that with an RBI triple that hit the bottom of the fence in right field. Knights would eventually come home on a passed ball, making the score 6-0 for the Brewers.

That was more than enough support for Toth on this night. Toth allowed only five hits and one walk in a complete game effort. The only run he allowed was unearned, coming on a passed ball and wild pitch.

Maple City would add one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to move the score to 10-1 and would coast from that point on.

The loss drops the Petrolia Raiders to 2-15 in the Western Counties League. Maple City improves to 8-3. Full box score available.

The Brewers return home this Sunday to face the Harrow Blues, in Essex League action. First pitch is 1:05 pm at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham.
