Decatur Blaze wins tough contest against Michigan Ice Dogs, 3-2

The game between Decatur Blaze and Michigan Ice Dogs was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Decatur Blaze emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ty Gehrken at 10:22 of the third period.

Decatur Blaze was led by Gehrken, who grabbed one goal.

Decatur Blaze racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Decatur Blaze had been spending in the box. Decatur Blaze's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Michigan Ice Dogs power plays. Decatur Blaze's offense rang up 50 shots on Michigan Ice Dogs' net.

Decatur Blaze also had goals scored by Duncan Irvine and Ryan Redpath, who scored one goal each. More assists for Decatur Blaze came via Justus Kree, Luka Znidarsic, Dylan Farmer, Curtis Schlereth, and Brock Oyler, who each chipped in one.

Michigan Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Michigan Ice Dogs kept Decatur Blaze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Hatcher made 42 saves on 44 shots.

Michigan Ice Dogs was helped by Joseph Russo, who tallied one goal. Russo scored 6:42 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Todd Grzembski picked up the assist. Hunter Oatman also scored for Michigan Ice Dogs. Other players who recorded assists for Michigan Ice Dogs were Kyle Cuthrell and Zachary June, who contributed one each.

Christopher Boyd rejected 47 shots on goal for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
