Bachynsky the OT hero for Firehawks Saturday

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Daniel Bachynsky’s goal 23 seconds into overtime lifted the Soo Firehawks past the Detroit Fighting Irish 7-6 Saturday night at the Big Bear Arena.

Eric Long had tied the game for Detroit at 19:14 of the third period.

Bachynsky (pictured) also added two assists for a three-point game, while Zach Eitrem and Anthony Laaksonen scored two goals each for the Firehawks.

Kiel Kwiatkowski and Matt MacLaren added a goal apiece and Noah Anderson contributed a pair of assists in the win.

Soo goaltender Cody Call finished with 32 saves.

For the Fighting Irish, Steven Sewell and Christian Ramage each popped two goals with an assist and Michael Perry tacked on a goal and two assists.

Shawn Mott chipped in two assists and Jacob Gorzelski made 29 stops between the pipes.

The Firehawks visit the Alpena Flyers on Sunday at 2:05 p.m.
