Manager Makes History in Petrolia

Date:  Source: Maple City Brewers

In a bizarre set of circumstances Wayne Tulloch, field manager for the Brewers, was forced into action for the first time in over 40 years due to a shortage of players. Tulloch didn't disappoint as he went 1-3 with an RBI, run scored, and even a sacrifice bunt, while holding down left field.

Joey Hewak threw a gem for the Brewers, giving up 1 run (unearned) in the first inning before shutting out the Raiders the rest of the way. Hewak gave up only 5 hits and struck out 8 in a complete game win.

The issue was never in doubt for the Brewers, even with a 68 year old left fielder. Maple City was the superior team on this night and the Petrolia pitching was no match for the potent Brewer bats. Maple City lashed out 13 hits including 3 a piece from Hewak and Brandyn Broadwood (C) and cruised to a 10-1 win.

The Brewers were unable to push across an 11th run to earn the mercy rule win, having to play a full seven innings. Dave Carey (RF) and Dave Smith (CF) each hit doubles in the top of the fifth and Broadwood hit a ball that shorthopped the wall which went for a single. Full box score available.
