The Midwest Junior Hockey League today announced its players of the week for the week ending Sunday, Jan. 11.

The awards are voted on by league coaches, general managers and league staff.

Defenseman of the Week – Michael Mullen, Soo Firehawks

Mullen posted a goal and an assist in two games last weekend as the Firehawks split with the Michigan Ice Dogs on the road.

A 1994-born Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., product, Mullen registered an assist in Friday night’s 4-3 loss before his goal in the third period Saturday temporarily gave the Soo a 4-3 lead in a game the Firehawks ended up winning 6-4.

For the year, Mullen has three goals and four assists for seven points while skating in 27 games for the Firehawks and playing close to 30 minutes a game.
