Firehawks get weekend split, top Ice Dogs Saturday

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Anthony Laaksonen's two goals and an assist led the Soo Firehawks to a 6-4 win over the Michigan Ice Dogs Saturday night at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena, gaining a weekend split in their two-game series.

Mario Taranto added a goal and an assist for the Soo, while Nick Gordon, Mike Mullen (pictured) and Christian Wilkins also scored.

Cody Anderson picked up three assists and Firehawks' goaltender Mackenzie Bruce earned the win with a 34-save performance.

For the Ice Dogs, Spencer Godin scored two goals and Joe Russo went for a goal and an assist.

Marc Rotondo scored the other goal for Michigan and Jacob Mulka turned aside 37 shots between the pipes.

The Firehawks next play Sunday, Jan. 11, at Alpena.
