Stephenville Jets swept by Central Cataracts

The Stephenville Jets have been grounded.

The Central Junior Cataracts dumped the Jets 15-1 Friday night at the Stephenville Dome to sweep their Exploits Home Hardware Central-West Junior Hockey League best-of-five semifinal in three games straight.

The defending champions from central Newfoundland outscored the Jets 44-2 in the three games of the series.

David Byrne was the top offensive star for the Central Cats with a four goal outing, while Mike Vaters supported the ofensive attack with a two-goal performance.

Gord Scott was the lone marksman for the Jets.

The Cats will now tangle with the Port aux Basques Junior Mariners in a best-of-seven final that gets underway this weekend in Botwood. Game 1 is slated for Saturday night 7:30p.m. and Game 2 is scheduled for Sunday 1:30p.m. at the Botwood Arena.

The winner of the series will represent the league at the Veitch Memorial April 1-3 at the Bruce II Sports Centre in Port aux Basques.

The Junior Mariners will be the host for the provincial tournament.
