The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (26-29) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 2-1 to the Marthas Vineyard Sharks (30-23) on Friday.
While the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs led until the eighth inning, the Marthas Vineyard Sharks worked their way back and took the lead on a solo home run by Luke Bonfield.
Bonfield was hot from the plate for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks. Bonfield went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the eighth inning.
Jacob Lamb put together a nice outing. The Wachusett Dirt Dawgs managed just one hit off of the the Marthas Vineyard Sharks' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his four innings of work.
PJ Browne was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Marthas Vineyard Sharks batters and allowing one run.
Scott Stonestreet recorded his third win of the year for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks. Stonestreet struck out three, walked none and gave up one hit.
Ryan OShea couldn't get it done on the mound for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
