Lead by outstanding pitching and clutch hitting in a game changing 5th inning LBI 10U was able to come back from a 5 – 0 deficit to defeat the regular season champs West Orange 6 – 5 at West Orange, NJ.
Dramatic 5th inning comeback…..
The regular season League Champion West Orange team ended the season with an 8 – 3 record and had beaten LBI 10U twice coming into last night’s championship game. They were on their way to a comfortable third consecutive victory over the Legends with a 5 – 0 lead going into the top of the 5th inning. LBI pitcher and shortstop Dominick – Little Falls started the dramatic 5th inning comeback with a walk. The next batter, Matt – Essex Fells reached on an infield hit using his tremendous speed to put runners on first and second with no outs. Cleanup batter Vince – Basking Ridge then tripled over the left fielders head to score the first two runs of the inning and game for Legends. Dillon – Riverdale delivered a base hit scoring another run cutting the deficit to 5 – 3. The visiting Legends bench went wild as did their loyal fans. Lucas – Fairfield, reached on an infield hit that advanced the runner to third while hustling to second on the throw to third base. Will – Boonton, then legged out an infield hit to score another run making the score 5-4. Ethan – Montville provided the game tying hit and the Legends had a new life and a needed lift.
Last Licks….
After Vince shut down the West Orange team in order in the bottom of the 5th inning, James T – North Caldwell lead off the 6th and last inning with a walk. He then stole second base which put him into scoring position. After two quick outs and the go ahead run on second base it was up to Robert – East Hanover, the team leading hitter to get that run home. As he did all season, Robert delivered with a clutch bomb to left center plating the go ahead run. Although stranded at second base. The Legends entered the bottom of the 6th and final inning of the game with a 6 – 5 lead.
One, Two, Three
Matt – Basking Ridge took the hill to protect the lead and proceeded to strike out the side to lead the Legends to a “Legendary” victory. A perfect ending to a perfect night of baseball…….
About Legends Baseball Instruction
Legends Baseball Instruction pays special attention to those players who, due to the advent of “Travel" and “Elite” baseball programs, have gotten less playing time and subsequently lost interest in baseball.
LBI’s mission is to provide a professional learning and motivational experience to encourage young baseball players of all ages and ability to improve their baseball skills. LBI provides local communities with professional & experienced instructors who recognize that not all young athletes develop at the same pace and that not all young athletes are meant to play baseball at an advanced level.
LBI accomplishes this by providing indoor and outdoor instructional “clinics” and “camps” throughout the year as well as fielding summer and fall baseball teams to offer players the opportunity to continue playing baseball beyond the traditional recreation season.
LBI coaches and instructors are former/current professional baseball players, former/current college baseball players or former/current High School all - star players. LBI Instructors are dedicated to advancing the skills of young players with a love for baseball. LBI instructors follow a baseball instructional curriculum developed by present and former professional baseball players, which was created as a fundamental approach to imparting baseball knowledge to young ball players.
