The American Lacrosse Conference has honored three players and their teams for their play last week as the league announced its twelfth weekly player honors for 2014. All three honorees earn their first league honos for this season. Johns Hopkins’ Taylor D’Amore was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Lauren Purvis from Penn State picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors. Michigan’s Tess Korten earned the first league honor of her career as she was named the ALC Rookie of the Week.
D'Amore totaled 5 goals, eight assists, three ground balls, five draws and four caused turnovers in a 2- 0 week for the Blue Jays. On Wednesday, she tallied a hat trick and handed out five assists as Hopkins beat host Old Dominion, 14-5. D'Amore also collected two ground balls, controlled three draws and caused a pair of turnovers versus the Monarchs. She followed that up with two goals and three assists, to go along with one ground ball, two draws and two caused turnovers in Hopkins' 8-7 win over Ohio State. D'Amore became the program's all-time assist leader when she handed out her 150th career assist with 9:27 left in the first half. She also became just the seventh player in NCAA Division I history with 150 career assists.
Purvis totaled a game-high four caused turnovers in Penn State’s 13-12 victory against Princeton. She added one ground ball and one draw control and collected her third game of the season with at least four caused turnovers. Purvis leads the ALC in caused turnovers per game.
Michigan’s Korten had a game-high tying five points on four goals and one assist to help Michigan defeat Fresno State, 19-6, in its regular-season finale. She also contributed three draw controls, one caused turnover and a career-high three ground balls in the win. This marked Korten's fourth hat trick and third game with five or more points this season. She has now scored at least one point in each of the last nine games, tallying 29 of her 37 total season points during that stretch.
