Bolzano uses big second period to beat Cortina, 8-0

Cortina allowed the Bolzano Foxes to net three goals during the second period and fell, 8-0.

Matthew Zaba frustrated Cortina's offense all game, and stopped 30 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of Zaba will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.14.

Bolzano put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cortina to score on any of its five power plays. The Foxes bested their season scoring average. Bolzano has scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Foxes were helped by Jordan Knackstedt, who had two goals and one assist. Knackstedt scored the first of his two goals at 5:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bolzano. Anton Bernard provided the assist. Knackstedt's next tally made the score 6-0 Bolzano with 10:45 left in the third period. MacGregor Sharp assisted on the tally. Bolzano additionally got points from Mark McCutcheon, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Bolzano also had goals scored by Marco Insam, who had two and Christian Walcher and Enrico Dorigatti, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Bolzano were Brandon Rogers, who had one, Stefano Giliati and Tuomo Harjula, who contributed two a piece, and Stefan Zisser and Christian Borgatello, who each chipped in three.

Cortina could not produce up to it normal offensive output. Cortina averages 2.5 goals per game. Cortina struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Bolzano to score two power play goals on three chances.

The Foxes incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jean Philippe Levasseur took the loss and made 18 saves before being replaced by Renè Baur who made eight saves. Cortina incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
