Pontebba falls to Alleghe after surprising comeback

The Alleghe Civette rallied from two goals down to secure a 4-3 win over the Pontebba Aquile FVG.

Alleghe never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Civette trailed 3-1 after a goal by Pontebba's Matt Waddell at 19:52 in the first period. Alleghe tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Vincent Rocco at 12:22 in the third period. The Civette scored the game winner at 17:23 in the third period on a goal by Rocco.

Alleghe pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The Civette excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Alleghe was helped by Daniele Veggiato, who racked up one goal. Alleghe additionally got points from Nicola Fontanive, who also had one goal and one assist. Manuel De Toni also scored for Alleghe. In addition, Alleghe received assists from Greg Hogeboom and Michael Schutte, who each chipped in one and Markku Tahtinen and Adam Henrich, who contributed two a piece.

The Aquile FVG stifled the Civette's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pontebba's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Aquile FVG finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Pontebba also got a goal from Tommy Goebel as well. More assists for Pontebba came via Luca Rigoni, who had two and Patrick Iannone, Slavomir Tomko, and Davide Anthony Nicoletti, who each chipped in one.

Adam Dennis made 33 saves for Alleghe on 36 shots. The Civette registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Alex Petizian rejected 28 shots on goal for Pontebba.
