HC Merano rips HC Eppan, 6-2

The HC Eppan Pirates had trouble finding ways to stop the HC Merano Adler, which beat Pirates, 6-2.

HC Merano got the win on the strength of a great game by Tommi Leinonen, who had two goals and one assist. Leinonen scored the first of his two goals at 14:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 HC Merano. Oliver Schenk picked up the assist. Leinonen's next tally made the score 6-2 HC Merano with 9:50 left in the third period.

The Adler's penalty kill excelled, as HC Merano gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Adler stifled HC Eppan's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. HC Merano outdid its season average for goals scored. The Adler average three goals per game. HC Merano's defensemen played an important role in the offense, as they chipped in two goals. The Adler were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Daniel Rizzi, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

HC Merano also got points from Leinonen, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. HC Merano also had goals scored by Thomas Mitterer, who had one and Massimo Ansoldi, who had two. More assists for HC Merano came via Gunnar Braito, Viktor Wallin, and Jari Lofman, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays. The leading offender was Lukas Martini, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Charles Corsi recorded 24 saves for HC Merano. Mark Demetz made 17 saves for HC Eppan on 23 shots.
