Allen survives St. Charles comeback, wins 6-4

The Allen Americans, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the St. Charles Chill and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Allen led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Americans' Bruce Graham's scored at 11:17 in the third period to put Allen up 7-4.

Phil Fox and Graham provided the spark for the Americans, combining for three goals and four assists. Fox tallied two goals and one assist and Graham also notched one goal and three assists.

Allen's penalty kill excelled, as the Americans gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Allen surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Americans average 3.6 goals per game. By firing 34 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 23.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Allen also got points from Graham, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Jamie Schaafsma, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Allen also had goals scored by Brian McMillin, Anthony Maiani, and Spencer Asuchak, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Greger Hanson, who had four and Alex Lavoie and Garrett Klotz, who contributed one a piece.

St. Charles' offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 12.6 shots per game it averages.

The Chill were led by Ryan Berard, who had two goals. Berard scored the first of his two goals at 4:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Charles. Justin Levac provided the assist. Berard's next tally made the score 4-3 St. Charles with 6:23 left in the second period. St. Charles earned a power play opportunity when Hanson was put in the box for spearing. Martin Hlinka picked up the assist. Others who scored for St. Charles included John Snowden and Travis Ouellette, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Charles received assists from Nello Ferrara and Nicklas Lindberg, who each chipped in one.

The Americans' starting goalie, Bryan Pitton, made 25 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Eric Levine, who stopped zero shots. Allen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Linus Lundin rejected 28 shots on goal for the Chill. St. Charles incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
