Allen uses shootout to best Denver, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Darryl Bootland scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Allen Americans picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over the Denver Cutthroats.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Denver's shootout goal was scored by Garrett Bembridge. In addition to the clincher, Allen got a shootout goal from Tyler Ludwig.

The Americans' offense was clicking better than usual and put 47 shots on goal during the game, better than the 35.3 shots per game they average.

Allen was helped by Jonathan Lessard, who finished with one goal. Lessard scored on the power play 16:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Allen. A slashing penalty on Vincent Arseneau had put the Americans on the power play. Alex Lavoie provided the assist. Mike Berube also scored for Allen. More assists for Allen came via Ludwig, who had one.

The Cutthroats did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Denver puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Cutthroats were helped by Michael Schumacher, who finished with one goal. Schumacher scored on the power play 8:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Denver had gotten the advantage when Allen's Lessard was sent off for interference. Bembridge picked up the assist. Denver also got a goal from Robin Soudek as well. In addition, Denver received assists from Steve Kaunisto, Jean-Philipp Chabot, and Cam Reid, who each chipped in one.

David Brown recorded 26 saves for the Americans. Allen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Cutthroats' Kent Patterson stopped 44 shots out of the 46 that he faced. Denver incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
