Arizona beats Missouri 3-2 after comeback scare

The Missouri Mavericks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Arizona Sundogs held on for a 3-2 victory.

Arizona made the score 3-1 on a goal by Jason Morgan at 11:36 in the second period, and Missouri got as close as 3-2 when Trevor Kell scored 6:31 into the third period.

The Sundogs were led by Morgan, who registered one goal.

Arizona was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Sundogs had been averaging 14.0 minutes in penalties per game. Arizona's offense was clicking better than usual and put 38 shots on goal during the game, better than the 32.0 shots per game it averages.

Mikael Bedard also scored for Arizona. In addition, Arizona received assists from David Schlemko, Kyle Schussler, Kyle Chipchura, Cody Purves, and Pascal Morency, who contributed one a piece.

The the Mavericks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Missouri had been spending in the box. The Mavericks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Missouri averages 4.3 goals per game. Missouri was helped by Kellen Tochkin, who tallied one goal. Tochkin scored 17:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kenton Miller assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were John-Scott Dickson, who had one and Brian Bicek, who had two.

Brown recorded 38 saves for Arizona. The Sundogs registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Mathieu Corbiel made 35 saves for the Mavericks on 38 shots. Missouri registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
