Chris Chappell was all over the ice for the Wichita Thunder, as he tallied two goals in Wichita's 3-1 win over the Texas Brahmas. Chappell found the back of the net 12:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita and again while 19:53 into the third to make the score 3-1 Wichita.The win gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Wichita's Adam Russo was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Russo will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.06. The Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Texas to score on any of its three power plays. Wichita also got a goal from RG Flath as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jarred Mohr, who had two and Chris Greene and Thomas Beauregard, who each chipped in one. The Brahmas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Texas' offense rang up 32 shots on Wichita's net. The Brahmas were led by Sy Nutkevitch, who scored the team's only goal. Nutkevitch scored 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Texas. TJ Fox assisted on the tally. The Thunder incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Texas' starting goalie, Brad Fogal, made 26 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mark Guggenberger, who stopped zero shots.
