Missouri rips Fort Wayne, 5-2

The Missouri Mavericks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Fort Wayne Komets.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Fort Wayne faces elimination next time out.

Missouri was led by Brandon Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored 18:07 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Missouri. Ryan Jardine provided the assist.

The Mavericks forced the Komets goalie Nick Boucher to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Missouri additionally got points from Ed McGrane, who also registered one goal and one assist, Kris Hogg, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Sebastien Thinel, who also racked up one goal and one assist. John-Scott Dickson also scored for Missouri. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Matt McCready, Dale Mahovsky, and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one.

Fort Wayne stifled Missouri's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defense for the Komets played an important role offensively, racking up 11 shots on goal.

Fort Wayne was helped by Jean-Michel Rizk, who had one goal. Rizk scored 11:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Fort Wayne also got a goal from Frankie DeAngelis as well. In addition, Fort Wayne received assists from Jamie Milam, who had one.

Charlie Effinger recorded 24 saves for the Mavericks. Missouri incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Komets' Boucher stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Fort Wayne incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
