Rapid City vanquishes Wichita in shootout, 3-2 (3-2 SO)

Riley Weselowski scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-2 SO) win over the Wichita Thunder.

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Wichita got shootout goals from Matt Summers and Alex Bourret. Rapid City's other shootout goals were scored by Jesse Schultz and Collin Circelli.

Rapid City came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Rapid City trailed 2-1 after a goal by the Thunder's Justin Sawyer at 14:42 in the second period. Rapid City knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Konrad Reeder at 14:47 in the third period.

Rapid City's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 16 shots between them. Rapid City's offense was clicking better than usual and put 32 shots on goal during the game, better than the 26.4 shots per game it averages.

Scott Wray also scored for Rapid City. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Circelli, Jeff Kyrzakos, Dave Grimson, and Schultz, who contributed one a piece.

Wichita was often in penalty trouble, totaling five minors and four majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Wichita excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Wichita also got a goal from Thomas Beauregard as well. More assists for Wichita came via Kevin Young, Bourret, Chris Greene, and Summers, who each chipped in one.

Tim Boron made 19 saves for Rapid City on 21 shots. Rapid City ended with 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and four majors. Adam Russo rejected 29 shots on goal for the Thunder. Wichita registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
