Rapid City's Smale deadly on offense in 3-1 win against Tulsa

BOK Center    Tue, Mar 06, 2012

Andrew Smale was all over the ice for Rapid City, as he tallied two goals in Rapid City's 3-1 win over the Tulsa Oilers.

Smale found the back of the net 1:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City and again while 19:33 into the third to make the score 3-1 Rapid City.

Tulsa was stymied by Rapid City netminder Tim Boron, who stopped 34 shots during the victory. The solid play of Boron will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.48.

Rapid City pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 19 penalty minutes.

Rapid City put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Oilers to score on any of their seven power plays. Rapid City relied heavily on its defensemen to assist its forwards, and the blueliners responded by scoring three goals on 16 shots. With 37 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 28.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City also got a goal from Jordan Behler as well. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Blake Forsyth, who had two and Riley Weselowski, Anthony Perdicaro, and Collin Circelli, who each chipped in one.

Tulsa did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Oilers average 3.1 goals per game. The defense for Tulsa played an important role offensively, racking up 16 shots on goal. The Oilers forced Rapid City goalie Boron to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Tulsa was led by Jeff Terminesi, who scored the team's only goal. Terminesi scored 5:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tulsa. Mike Ullrich provided the assist.

Rapid City registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Ian Keserich made 34 saves for the Oilers on 36 shots. Tulsa ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
