Wichita vanquishes Fort Wayne in shootout, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Thomas Beauregard scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Wichita Thunder picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-1 SO) win over the Fort Wayne Komets.

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Fort Wayne got a shootout goal from Frankie DeAngelis. Wichita's other shootout goals were scored by Matt Robinson and Beauregard.

The Thunder overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wichita trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Komets' Jean-Michel Rizk at 15:09 in the first period. The Thunder tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Dustin Donaghy at 6:02 in the second period.

Wichita put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fort Wayne to score on any of its three power plays. With 30 shots on target during the contest, the Thunder exceeded the 19.3 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita also got a goal from Kevin Seibel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Francis Trudel and Beauregard, who contributed one a piece.

The Komets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wichita power plays. Fort Wayne's offense rang up 35 shots on Wichita's net. The Komets' offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 15 shots on net during the game.

Bobby Chaumont also scored for Fort Wayne. More assists for Fort Wayne came via Bryant Molle, Stephon Thorne, and Leo Thomas, who each chipped in one.

Adam Russo recorded 33 saves for the Thunder. Wichita ended with 10 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Komets ended with 12 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
