Quad City beats Evansville 5-2 as Boyer gets hat trick

i-wireless Center    Sat, Mar 03, 2012

Jeremy Boyer lifted the Quad City Mallards to a 5-2 victory with a hat trick against the Evansville IceMen.

Boyer got on the scoresheet 11:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:20 into the second and at 4:47 into the second.

Quad City's penalty kill excelled, as the Mallards gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Quad City racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Mallards had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Quad City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as John Snowden, Boyer and Jared Brown took 18 of the team's 35 shots. The Mallards had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Quad City also got a goal from Matt Duffy as well. More assists for Quad City came via Jason Kostadine, who had two, Mickey Lang, who had three, and Bob Preece, Darren McMillan, Obi Aduba, and Justin Hofstetter, who contributed one a piece.

Evansville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the IceMen had been spending in the box.

Evansville was led by Brian Bicek, who had one goal. Bicek scored 16:24 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Quad City. Matt Gens picked up the assist. Todd Robinson also scored for Evansville. Other players who recorded assists for Evansville were Josh Beaulieu, Nicklas Lindberg, and Malcolm Gwilliam, who each chipped in one.

David McKee recorded 27 saves for Quad City. The IceMen's starting goalie, Pier-Olivier Pelletier, made 21 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Bryan Gillis, who stopped nine shots.
