Wichita rides Hogan to victory over Evansville, 2-1

Ford Center    Fri, Mar 02, 2012

Bryan Hogan stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Wichita Thunder to a 2-1 victory over the Evansville IceMen.

Wichita's penalty kill excelled, as the Thunder gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Wichita was sparked by Chris Chappell, who grabbed one goal. Chappell scored on the power play 9:51 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wichita. The Thunder had gained a power play chance when Nicklas Lindberg was whistled for tripping. Kevin Seibel assisted on the tally.

Wichita could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. By firing 37 shots on goal, the Thunder exceeded the 22.5 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita also got a goal from RG Flath as well. More assists for Wichita came via Francis Trudel, Thomas Beauregard, and Matt Summers, who each chipped in one.

Evansville's offense operated below it season average. The IceMen average 3.4 goals per game. Evansville found itself short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

The IceMen were led by Matt Gens, who scored the team's only goal. Gens scored on the power play 8:57 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Flath had put Evansville on the power play. Todd Robinson provided the assist.

Bryan Gillis recorded 35 saves for the IceMen. Evansville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Robinson was ejected from the game.
