Quad City blows out Bloomington, 5-1

The Quad City Mallards had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Bloomington Blaze.

Justin Chwedoruk was all over the ice for Quad City, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Chwedoruk scored 2:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Mickey Lang assisted on the tally.

The Mallards were led by goalie David McKee, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. McKee managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.11 prior to the game.

Quad City made Blaze's goaltenders to work without much rest, ripping 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 10 stops and Zane Kalemba made 20. The Mallards put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Bloomington to score on any of its five power plays.

Quad City also got points from Brandon Marino, who also had two goals and one assist. Jared Brown also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Jason Kostadine, who had two and Shane Lovdahl and John Snowden, who contributed one a piece.

The Blaze's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Quad City power plays. Bloomington's offense rang up 38 shots on Quad City's net.

The Blaze were led by Brandon Richardson, who took three shots.

The Mallards incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Bloomington incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
