Date: Aug 13, 2012
Will County's Carter Smith is featured in July 6's edition of The Herald News, a Chicago Sun-Times publication in Joliet, Ill. Author Dick Goss attended a CrackerJacks game earlier this season, spoke with Smith and compared him to former major leaguer Jim Abbott in his article. Smith, who was born without a right hand, is a NCAA Division I pitcher at the University of Tennessee-Martin. Abbott was also born without a right hand.
Smith is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA this season for the CrackerJacks. In 27.1 innings, he has allowed just 14 earned runs, 14 walks and has struck out 22 batters. He threw 2.1 scoreless innings in last night's win over the Southland Vikings to earn his second save of the season.
The CrackerJacks head to Rockford, Ill., to play the Foresters tonight at 7 p.m.
