Dive into summer baseball with the 'Jacks
Date: Aug 13, 2012
Following a game one win over the Rockford Foresters, the Will County CrackerJacks thought they were well on their way to a twinbill sweep leading 9-1 in the third inning.
They eventually prevailed, but not without a fight from Rockford.
In the third, fourth and fifth innings, the Foresters scored eight unanswered runs to tie the game off of CrackerJacks starter Ben Gullo and reliever Anthony Ciango.
The game remained knotted at nine until the bottom of the sixth inning. With Mitch Elliott on third with no outs, Eric Esquilin picked up his first hit as a CrackerJack to give his club the lead.
Will County would tack on two insurance runs in the inning and Ciango and Dalton Potts pitched a scoreless seventh to put the game away.
Will County's Derek Brown finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and Daniel Nevares knocked home two as well.
Ciango (2-0) earned his second win of the season for the CrackerJacks, while Nick Lumley took the loss for Rockford.
With the sweep over the Foresters, the CrackerJacks improved to a league-best 16-9 and re-claimed the lead in the MCL South by a half-game over the Illinois Lincolns. Rockford fell to 7-20. Will County is 3-0 against the Foresters in 2012.
The CrackerJacks next take the field tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m. against the Southland Vikings.
