Lakefield uses big second period to beat North Kawartha, 5-1

The North Kawartha Knights allowed the Lakefield Chiefs to net three goals during the second period and fell, 5-1.

Lakefield got the win thanks to a great game by Eric Oosting, who had two goals and one assist. Oosting scored the first of his two goals at 7:24 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Oosting's next tally made the score 5-0 Lakefield with 16:53 left in the third period. Nick Hildebrand assisted on the tally.

The Chiefs stifled North Kawartha's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Lakefield forced the Knights goalie Jake Ireland to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Others who scored for Lakefield included Brendan Sampson, Riley Campbell, and Colton Armstrong, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Keenan Runnalls and Connor Ellis, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs' defense shut down North Kawartha's forwards for much of the game, and the Knights got off only 13 shots during the contest.

Michael Christie recorded 12 saves for Lakefield. The Chiefs incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Lakefield, Josh Duggan was ejected from the game. Jake Ireland made 27 saves for North Kawartha on 32 shots. The Knights incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
