Lakefield erases deficit to stun Little Britain, 6-5

The Lakefield Chiefs climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Little Britain Merchants, 6-5.

Lakefield let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Chiefs took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Eric Oosting at 6:43 in the first period. Lakefield went down 5-2 after Little Britain's Derek Risebrough put the puck home on the power play at 15:43 in the second period. After evening things up at 5-5 on a goal by Oosting at 12:30 in the third, the Chiefs got the game-winner from Koel Newton at 14:03 in the third period.

Lakefield found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Chiefs have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Lakefield also got points from Newton, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Lakefield also had goals scored by Pat Young APM and Riley Campbell, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Jayd Killingbeck, who had two and Jeff Hawthorne, Keenan Runnalls, and Ethan Schott, who contributed one each.

The Merchants' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Lakefield power plays. Little Britain forced Lakefield goalie Michael Christie to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The defensemen of the Merchants were also effective in the Chiefs' zone, and came away with two goals.

Little Britain was helped by Mark Harris, who registered one goal. Harris scored 12:25 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Little Britain additionally got points from Blake Abbott, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Risebrough, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Little Britain included Mac West APM and Terry Snoddon, who scored one goal each. In addition, Little Britain received assists from Jesse Craig, Kenzie Smith, and Keegan Cairns, who each chipped in one.

Michael Christie made 31 saves for Lakefield on 36 shots. The Chiefs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Merchants' Adam Harris stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Little Britain incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
