Double Blowouts

Date:  Source: Sarnia Pacers

It's been a tough week for the Pacers -  make that a tough month, after the hometown team took a beating on the scoreboard in both their games this weekend. With the number of injuries, especially to a number of vets, the club has had to go with a very young & rather  inexperienced Jr B group of players - and sometimes not even a full lineup.

On Friday night, the Six Nations Rebels paid a visit to Sarnia and they showed why they have an unbeaten record - moving the ball so quickly at times that even the referees had a bit of trouble following it.  They seemed to score at will and did so often. Even having to deal with transportation problems, the Rebels took a warmup and the game got started - 30 minutes late resulting in the Pacers beginning with a power play opportunity to begin the game.

Six Nations took that in stride, killing it off and then going on a scoring spree, bulging the twine five times before Sarnia's Kevin Hussey got one back - a power play marker.  Assists were picked up by JT Mara and Kevin Conroy. By the end of the first period, the Rebels enjoyed a 6-1 lead.

In the second stanza, Sarnia started off the scoring on a Dan Charlton goal from Ryan Charteris.  The Rebels replied with two more before Sarnia got another.  This time it was JT Mara potting the goal from Kevin Conroy. Two more goals from Six Nations by the 6:41 mark and the game ended for starter Justin Matthews who had face 36 shots in just over 26 minutes of play and was credited with the loss.  Taking over that job was Ian Ferguson who saw just over 33 minutes of play.  He would give up 11 goals on 29 shots for the balance of the game.

In the final 20 minutes of play, Sarnia managed to sandwich in a couple more goals.  Bumping up the score for the Pacers were two goals from  Kevin Conroy with assists from TJ Mara, Dan Charlton and Ryan Charteris.

MVP for Sarnia was Justin Matthews and Brandon Montour for the Rebels.

In Saturday's game against the Northmen the Pacers got off to a pretty good start.  They gave up the opening goal early in the period but got it back quickly on a Dan Charlton goal with an assist from Josh Bujaki.  Things seemed pretty even with the teams going back & forth on the floor until the two man wrecking crew known as Cody McMahon and Deron Dempster found their groove. They accounted for 11 of the 17 goals put up the the Northmen.

During the second period, Sarnia was completely shut out on the scoreboard and it wasn't until the 7:30 mark that Dan Gawn's shot found the back of the net. The lone assist went to Brandan Bur. The Northmen then finished the scoring with 2 power play and 1 short-handed goals.

MVPs of the game were Ian Ferguson for the Pacers and Deron Dempster of Orangeville.

The Pacers have a three game homestand this coming week beginning on Wednesday, June 1st when we host the Wallaceburg Red Devils.  That evening, we will be raising funds for Suicide Awareness and we ask that all our fans come to the arena prepared to help out by purchasing orange ribbons.  All the players/staff/executive members from both clubs will be sporting orange arm bands to show their support.
