Smiths Falls holds on for 3-1 win against Nepean

The Nepean Raiders tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Smiths Falls Bears held on for a 3-1 victory.

Smiths Falls made the score 3-0 on a goal by Chris MacMillan at 12:46 in the second period, and Nepean got as close as 3-1 when Mitchell Herlihey scored 14:50 into the third period.

The win gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Smiths Falls was led by goalie Cory Simic, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal.

The Bears put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their three power plays. Smiths Falls forced Nepean goalie Ryan Mulder to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Bears were led by Victor Beaulac, who had one goal and one assist. Beaulac scored 11:12 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Simic provided the assist. Brandon Lesway also scored for Smiths Falls. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Ben Beasley, Daniel Lombardi, and Stefano Momesso, who contributed one each.

Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Raiders from sending pucks towards the net, and Nepean eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Keenan Hodgson and Brandon Watt, who each chipped in one.

The Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ryan Mulder made 45 saves for the Raiders on 48 shots. Nepean incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
