A four-goal first period deficit cost the Nepean Raiders, which could not recover and fell to the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 10-0.
Sean Keating spearheaded the defensive effort for Pembroke, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 30 saves for the shutout. Keating managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.42 prior to the game.
Jake Staples quarterbacked the Lumber Kings' offense to perfection and bagged five assists in Pembroke's win over Nepean.
The Lumber Kings forced the Raiders' goalies to work all game long, taking 55 shots and forcing 45 saves. Jack Ondrovic made 15 stops and Reilly Tondreau made 30. Pembroke excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Lumber Kings' defensive effort looked to be improved. Pembroke gives up 3.0 goals on average per game. The Lumber Kings' goal total was higher than their season average. Pembroke has scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.
Pembroke also got points from Colton Keuhl, who also registered one goal and one assist, Brandon Kosik, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Lucas Gonu, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Pembroke included Reid Murphy and Kyle Shaw, who scored two goals each and Mark Rowe, Colin Kruse, and Chris Minns, who each put in one. More assists for Pembroke came via Jordan Larson, who had two and Sam Gleason, Felix Chamberland, Ryan Erickson, Patrice Wren, and Stephan Beauvais, who contributed one a piece.
Nepean was held below its usual level of production. The Raiders average 3.0 goals per game. Nepean's penalty kill unit could not stop the Lumber Kings' power play, which converted on three of four opportunities.
Pembroke incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
