Week 4: Players of the Week
Date: Feb 15, 2014

Anyone who plays basketball regularly knows that sometimes the shots just aren’t falling. Maybe it’s the basketball, maybe you’re a little tired, maybe it just isn’t your day. On Wednesday, the Shield was having one of those days. They fell to Pippen Ain’t Easy, 59-48 in the last game of the CSL’s Week One.
Team Pippen was quick to capitalize on the aforementioned poor Shield shooting. The Shields’ first lead was 3-2 and their last lead was 3-2. By halftime Pippen was up comfortably 32-19. The Shield’s shooting woes started to wear off as the game progressed, they actually outscored Pippen in the 2nd half by 3. But the hole was just too deep to get back in the game.
The Shield were led by two CSL veterans Jamel Williams, who made the CSL All-Third Team in the fall and Edmund Jefferson, who’s had a game winner in his last CSL debut. Unfortunately, Shield weren’t able to find much offense anywhere else on the roster.
Pippen on the other hand were lead by a strong two-headed attack of Derrick Walker and Jackson Genovese, who scored 16 a piece. They both featured a diverse inside/outside game. And although they didn’t score much, the Pippen bench deserves kudos for protecting the ball, playing solid defense, and playing with a ton of aggression.
The Shield will have to pull things together quickly, they face off against the big and talented “These Guys”. It’s unlikely that they will shoot this poorly again. Pippen will look to go 2-0 against the Nightmares of Harrison St.
