Allen downs Denver in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Allen Americans' Jamie Schaafsma scored 1:51 into overtime to beat the Denver Cutthroats, 5-4 (OT).

With the win, Allen evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Schaafsma was all over the ice for the Americans, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Schaafsma scored the first of his two goals at 7:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Jonathon Zion picked up the assist. Schaafsma's next tally made the score 5-4 Allen with 18:09 left in. Tyler Ludwig assisted on the tally.

Denver was unable to stop Allen from sending pucks towards the net, and the Americans eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Allen also got points from Steven Tarasuk, who also registered one goal and one assist. Allen also had goals scored by Anthony Maiani and Jonathan Lessard, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Kale Kerbashian and Alex Lavoie, who each chipped in one.

The Cutthroats excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Denver forced Allen goalie Bryan Pitton to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

The Cutthroats were helped by Garett Bembridge, who finished with one goal. Bembridge scored on the power play 1:57 into the second period to make the score 2-2. A hooking penalty on Darryl Bootland had put Denver on the power play. Steve Kaunisto picked up the assist. Denver additionally got points from Troy Schwab, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Denver included Robin Soudek and Daniel Barczuk, who scored one goal each. More assists for Denver came via Lee Moffie, Sean Zimmerman, Jean-Philipp Chabot, TJ Fox, and Cam Reid, who contributed one each.

Pitton recorded 47 saves for the Americans. Allen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Cutthroats' Kent Patterson stopped 36 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Denver incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
