Schaafsma's big game bests Brampton in 4-1 Allen win

Jamie Schaafsma had two goals and two assists to lead the Allen Americans to a 4-1 victory over the Brampton Beast.

Schaafsma scored at 18:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 13:51 into the third to make the score 3-1 Allen.

The win by Allen clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

The Americans were led by goalie Bryan Pitton, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Pitton managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.35 prior to the game.

Brampton was unable to stop Allen from sending pucks towards the net, and the Americans eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Allen additionally got points from Greger Hanson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Bruce Graham, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Mike Berube, Daniel Tetrault, Anthony Maiani, and Jonathan Lessard, who contributed one each.

The Beast did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up only one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Brampton's defensemen bolstered the Beast's offensive attack, as they bombarded Pitton with 14 shots.

Brampton was led by Jason Pitton, who scored the team's only goal. Pitton scored on the power play 9:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Brampton. The Beast earned a power play opportunity when Cain Franson was put in the box for tripping. Matt Caruana assisted on the tally.

Allen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kristofer Westblom made 35 saves for Brampton on 39 shots. The Beast registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
