Arizona stifles Denver's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Arizona Sundogs, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Denver Cutthroats and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Arizona led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Sundogs' Kevin Baker scored on the power play at 18:25 in the first period to put Arizona up 3-0.

Denver's power play was ineffective against the Sundogs' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Arizona was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time.

The Sundogs were led by Brandon Coccimiglio, who racked up one goal and one assist. Coccimiglio scored on the power play 8:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. Arizona earned a power play opportunity when Robin Soudek was put in the box for hooking. Jason Morgan provided the assist. Arizona also got points from Bryan Cameron, who also had one goal and one assist. Arizona also got a goal from Mark Isherwood as well. In addition, Arizona received assists from Shawn Limpright, who had two and Garrett Clarke and Jordan Clendenning, who contributed one each.

With 41 shots on target during the contest, the Cutthroats exceeded the 28.2 shots they average per game this year.

Denver was led by Jason Cohen, who tallied one goal and one assist. Cohen scored 3:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Arizona. Garett Bembridge picked up the assist. TJ Fox also scored for Denver. More assists for Denver came via Lee Moffie and Vincent Arseneau, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Engelage rejected 39 shots on goal for the Sundogs. Arizona registered two goals on four power play opportunities. John Griggs recorded 20 saves for the Cutthroats. Denver ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
