St. Charles survives penalties, beats Allen, 5-2

The St. Charles Chill's penalty kill was superb, as St. Charles survived multiple penalties to beat the Allen Americans, 5-2.

The Chill were sparked by John Snowden, who tallied one goal and one assist. Snowden scored 15:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 St. Charles. Michael MacIntyre picked up the assist.

St. Charles forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Chill had been spending in the box. St. Charles put 23 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.3 it averages per game. The Chill found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. St. Charles averages 2.5 goals per game.

St. Charles additionally got points from Travis Ouellette, who also had one goal and one assist and Nicklas Lindberg, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for St. Charles included TJ Moor and Martin Hlinka, who each put in one. More assists for St. Charles came via Cameron Cooper, Zack Josepher, and Linus Lundin, who contributed one each.

Allen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 27 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.4 shots per game it averages.

The Americans were helped by Bruce Graham, who registered one goal and one assist. Graham scored on the power play 14:44 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Allen had gained a power play chance when Hlinka was whistled for hooking. Greger Hanson provided the assist. Allen also got points from Hanson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Allen received assists from Tyler Ludwig and Phil Fox, who each chipped in one.

Linus Lundin made 25 saves for the Chill on 27 shots. St. Charles registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Americans' starting goalie, Bryan Pitton, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Eric Levine, who stopped zero shots. Allen totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play.
