Missouri hangs on, beats Allen 3-1

Andrew Courtney scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Missouri Mavericks held off the challenges of the Allen Americans in a tough 3-1 win.

Missouri took over the lead for good with a goal by Courtney at 14:28 in the first period. Sebastien Thinel assisted on the tally.

Allen was stymied by the Mavericks netminder Shane Owen, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Owen managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.56 prior to the game.

Missouri was led by Eric Castonguay, who tallied one goal. Castonguay scored 9:46 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Missouri. Courtney picked up the assist.

The the Mavericks penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Missouri surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mavericks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Allen power plays. Missouri put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 28.1 it averages per game.

Missouri additionally got points from Courtney, who also had one goal and one assist. Missouri also got a goal from John-Scott Dickson as well. In addition, Missouri received assists from Anders Franzon, who had one.

The Americans excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Allen could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Americans put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. The 28 shots that Allen put on net surpassed the Americans' average of 23.7 shots per game this season.

Allen was led by Greger Hanson, who scored the team's only goal. Hanson scored 8:01 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Missouri. Anthony Maiani assisted on the tally.

Bryan Pitton recorded 28 saves for the Americans. Allen ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
