The Wichita Thunder tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Missouri Mavericks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Missouri took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Wichita storm back on a Andrew Martens goal 19:41 into the third period to pull to one goal down. Sebastien Thinel was all over the ice for the Mavericks, as he finished with two goals in the win. Thinel scored at 18:45 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while short handed 9:52 into the third to make the score 3-2 Missouri. By firing 36 shots on goal, Missouri exceeded the 26.7 shots it averages per game this year. Missouri also got points from Colten Hayes, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Missouri also got a goal from Tyler Currier as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Evan Vossen, who had two and Anders Franzon, Dave Pszenyczny, Obi Aduba, and Andrew Courtney, who each chipped in one. The Thunder's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Missouri power plays. Wichita put 34 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.7 it averages per game. Others who scored for Wichita included RG Flath and Tomas Klempa, who each put in one. More assists for Wichita came via Mike Wilson, Ian Lowe, Jason Wilson, and Matt Summers, who contributed one each. Shane Owen rejected 31 shots on goal for the Mavericks. Missouri ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. David Brown made 32 saves for the Thunder on 36 shots. Wichita totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. |
