Wichita wins tough contest against Brampton, 4-2

The Wichita Thunder and the Brampton Beast were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Wichita made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Thunder gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Robinson 6:48 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Robinson had a great game for Wichita, netting two goals.

The Thunder put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its three power plays. Wichita put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 27.4 it averages per game.

Others who scored for Wichita included Matt Summers and Jon Madden, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wichita received assists from Jon Booras, who had two and Mike Wilson, Erick Lizon, Tomas Klempa, and Andrew Martens, who each chipped in one.

The Beast were helped by Matt Caruana, who registered one goal. Caruana scored 14:04 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jamie VanderVeeken picked up the assist. Brampton also got a goal from Tylor Michel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brampton were Andrew Fournier and Brett Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Taylor Nelson recorded 26 saves for the Thunder. Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Brampton's Kristofer Westblom stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. The Beast incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
