Missouri hangs on, beats Tulsa 3-1

The Missouri Mavericks beat the Tulsa Oilers, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

John-Scott Dickson provided Missouri with the game-winning tally when he scored 1:43 into the the first period. Obi Aduba assisted on the tally.

Tulsa was stymied by the Mavericks netminder Shane Owen, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Owen managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.65 prior to the game.

Missouri was sparked by Aduba, who tallied one goal and one assist. Aduba scored 2:19 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Missouri. Colten Hayes provided the assist.

Missouri also got a goal from Trevor Kell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Evan Vossen, Andrew Courtney, and Colt King, who each chipped in one.

The Oilers were held below their usual level of production. Tulsa averages 3.4 goals per game. The Mavericks were unable to stop the Oilers from sending pucks towards the net, and Tulsa eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Oilers' defensemen bolstered Tulsa's offensive attack, as they bombarded Owen with 13 shots.

The Oilers were led by Nathan Lutz, who scored the team's only goal. Lutz scored on the power play 3:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Missouri. Tulsa had gotten the advantage when Missouri's Kell was sent off for slashing. Todd Robinson picked up the assist.

The Mavericks totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Shane Madolora recorded 23 saves for the Oilers. Tulsa totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play.
