Ian Lowe had two goals and one assist to lead the Wichita Thunder to a 5-1 victory over the St. Charles Chill. Lowe scored at 12:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita and again while 4:30 into the second to make the score 3-1 Wichita.St. Charles was stymied by Wichita netminder Taylor Nelson, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Nelson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.03 entering the contest. The Thunder outdid their season average for goals scored. Wichita averages 2.6 goals per game. Wichita also had goals scored by Andrew Martens, Jon Booras, and Dustin Donaghy, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Jesse Dudas, who had two, Matt Robinson, who had three, and Nick McParland and Jared Walker, who contributed one a piece. The Chill put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.3 they average per game. The defense for St. Charles played an important role offensively, racking up 12 shots on goal. The Chill were led by Dan Weiss, who scored the team's only goal. Weiss scored on the power play 15:48 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wichita. An interference penalty on Walker had put St. Charles on the power play. Steve Makway assisted on the tally. The Thunder totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Wichita ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Garrett Gruenke was ejected from the game. Robert Moss rejected 21 shots on goal for the Chill. St. Charles totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. |
