Denver survives St. Charles comeback, wins 4-2

The Denver Cutthroats came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the St. Charles Chill, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Denver led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Cutthroats' Cam Reid's scored on the power play at 12:00 in the second period to put Denver up 3-0.

Garrett Bembridge had a great game for the Cutthroats, netting two goals. Bembridge scored at 9:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver and again while 19:20 into the third to make the score 4-2 Denver.

St. Charles' power play was ineffective against Denver's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with nine game misconducts.

The Cutthroats forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. Denver surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 43 shots on goal, the Cutthroats exceeded the 26.3 shots they average per game this year.

Denver also got a goal from TJ Fox as well. In addition, Denver received assists from Jean-Philipp Chabot, Matt Glasser, and Michael Schumacher, who contributed one a piece and Troy Schwab and Aaron MacKenzie, who each chipped in two.

The the Chill penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and four majors for 114 minutes in penalty time. St. Charles had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The 36 shots that the Chill put on net surpassed St. Charles' average of 20.7 shots per game this season.

The Chill were helped by Kyle OKane, who grabbed one goal. OKane scored 13:01 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Denver. Dan Weiss provided the assist. Anthony Perdicaro also scored for St. Charles. Other players who recorded assists for St. Charles were Steve Makway, Zack Josepher, and Nicklas Lindberg, who contributed one a piece.

Denver's Kieran Millan stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Cutthroats registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Denver, Daniel Amesbury and Robin Soudek were ejected from the contest. Linus Lundin made 39 saves for St. Charles on 42 shots. Team's Greg Brown, Perdicaro, Andrew Conboy, and Anthony Pisano were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
