Rapid City uses shootout to best Arizona, 3-2 (3-1 SO)

Jesse Schultz scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Rapid City picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (3-1 SO) win over the Arizona Sundogs.

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Arizona got a shootout goal from Kevin Baker. Rapid City also got shootout goals from Jared Brown and Schultz.

Rapid City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Rapid City kept the Sundogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Engelage made 30 saves on 33 shots.

Rapid City was helped by Konrad Reeder, who racked up one goal. Reeder scored 5:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rapid City. Schultz assisted on the tally. Rapid City also got a goal from Riley Weselowski as well. More assists for Rapid City came via Scott Wray, who had one.

Arizona stifled Rapid City's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Sundogs exceeded the 21.2 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona was helped by Paul McIlveen, who grabbed one goal. McIlveen scored 16:55 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Bryan Cameron provided the assist. Garrett Clarke also scored for Arizona.

Tim Boron recorded 29 saves for Rapid City. Rapid City incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Sundogs incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
