Wichita rolls over Missouri, 5-2

The Missouri Mavericks had trouble finding ways to stop the Wichita Thunder, which beat Mavericks, 5-2.

Wichita's defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 12 shots.

The Thunder were led by Kevin Young, who finished with two goals. Young scored the first of his two goals at 5:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. Chad Painchaud picked up the assist. Young's next tally made the score 5-2 Wichita with 13:41 left in the third period. Jon Madden provided the assist. Wichita also got points from Painchaud, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from Ian Lowe as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Todd Griffith, David Inman, Matt Summers, Torrie Jung, Andrew Martens, and Aaron Boogaard, who contributed one a piece.

Missouri was helped by John-Scott Dickson, who had one goal. Dickson scored on the power play 18:43 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wichita. The Mavericks earned a power play opportunity when Martens was put in the box for hooking. Kellen Tochkin picked up the assist. Missouri additionally got points from Tochkin, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Missouri came via Joshua Hepditch, Kenton Miller, and Sebastien Thinel, who each chipped in one.

Jung rejected 20 shots on goal for Wichita. The Thunder incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mathieu Corbiel made 21 saves for Missouri on 26 shots. The Mavericks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
