Arizona squeaks by Allen, 4-2

The Arizona Sundogs and the Allen Americans were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Arizona made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Derek LeBlanc's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

LeBlanc was all over the ice for the Sundogs, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. LeBlanc scored 14:20 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Arizona. Chad Nehring assisted on the tally.

Arizona excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 31 shots on goal, the Sundogs exceeded the 24.8 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona also got points from Nehring, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Arizona also got a goal from Kyle Hood as well. In addition, Arizona received assists from Adam Smyth, Jeff Kyrzakos, Cody Purves, and Mario Larocque, who contributed one a piece.

Arizona was unable to stop Allen from sending pucks towards the net, and the Americans eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Allen was helped by Anthony Maiani, who finished with one goal. Maiani scored 9:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Allen. Darryl Bootland provided the assist. Brian McMillin also scored for Allen. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Tyler Ludwig, Jason Deitsch, and Jamie Schaafsma, who each chipped in one.

David Brown rejected 35 shots on goal for the Sundogs. Arizona totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Aaron Dell recorded 27 saves for the Americans. Allen ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
